ART WALK No.5 (Brisbane) Ripley’s believe it or not, Judy Milla & Olaf Breuning @ Institute of modern art, Brisbane city

– Every week, I spend one day exploring new art shows around town. The shows are hand picked by myself so it’s a personal taste and connections, so it’s not a comprehensive list of any sort. If you are into similar type of art, then it will be most helpful to you as a guide around Melbourne and other places I visit. Here you will find a list of all latest art walk posts

(I have decided to move the upcoming events to a new post, I thought that will make more sense.)

This week’s art walk post is coming out on Friday instead of Thursday, because I was busy planning my first street art as part of a festival! In short, I’m posting an image of two men kissing in front of a church. Wanna see it? I will post about that shortly in anther post, but you can have a quick look here. Here is what I have promised last week, a recap from what I saw in Brisbane!

I didn’t exactly go to surfers paradise with hope to see something bizarre and interesting, so when I was in front of Ripley’s believe it or not, I was so impressed and the shop front lured me in just like that. Look how surreal it is in the picture! Here you will find all sort of weird people and stories, and I was getting chill down the spine towards the second half of the journey. I have to say I enjoyed it very much and it definitely worth a visit. Here you will find some of my favourite moments.

I forgot to take a photo of the entrance, so I found this image on the net

I went to Institute of modern art in Brisbane, the first impression was a little bit of let down, the building needs some art treatment at the entrance perhaps. Anyhow, I walked awkwardly in front of 3 ladies at the front desk and checked out Judy Millar’s show at first “Be do be do be do”. I was presented with big wavy black and white drawings, you can really get lost into it, it also look good in photos!

I had few giggles out of Olaf Breuning‘s “Home 3″, it’s an half hour video with this guy doing all sort of cold jokes, some can be outrage, some can be just awkward, but it’s good kind of awkward. My non-artist friends enjoyed it too. Here is the event on Facebook if you want to check it out.

We also had a look at the International work on paper at QUT art museum, it was quite a collection of beautiful artworks including this one. More photos here.

Enough about the serious art galleries, Brisbane city was beautiful! Friend joked “Brisbane shows how to get people to city without building a giant casino.” They have so much greens in the city it’s magical, they even have a “beach” in the middle of everything.

And yes, of course I went to all the theme parks… I’m not particularly proud of that part of my doing, I can only show you this, my view of riding on glittering horses.

And let’s end this with an image of lazy kangaroos, yes, Queenslanders are so chilled, they just nap in the middle of the road, collectively.

I’m actually considering moving there, it’s warm, friendly locals, good for slow moving people like me. I don’t know yet. Melbourne is quite addictive with the art and all though …
