Studio visit: Rainbow, sculpting tools, neighbour’s cat & mushroom girl

Rainbow is happening on my desk!

Birds are singing and the neighbour’s cat is visiting us from time to time. We set up the garage as our new studio so I can make a mess and separate the life and work, hop in, we are at work, hop out, we are living.

Occasionally Gihan comes and share his new finding with sculptures, “look at this texture.” or “See if I got the hands right.” He actually make his own tools, it very handy with textures. Sometimes everything he find can be a tool by itself, everything just come naturally and easily.

“Look at this texture” he said. He makes his own sculpting tools too.

My table look so colourful with all these sorted colour thread and my hippie sewing machine. Sometimes I can hear little taps on the shelves, it’s either the cat trying to jump on to it or Gihan is looking for something from the pile.

Yesterday we listened to some radio and decided the pop music is way to dead for us to enjoy and there is no such thing as variety to it. So i kept on listening to my own Grooveshark. It’s amazing the amount of variety I get from the music I choose even though they are limited in my own taste. But then some people might argue that focusing on the taste you like is also dangerous to narrow the mind, but then I don’t think mainstream music is doing the “mind widening” thing, either.

I told Helen about the honey today, how raw honey looks so creamy while I thought when people first see it, they will feel so disgusted with all these bee parts floating on top, I mean I actually picked out a head of a bee from it, but then after I tried it, it gave a rather subtle and pleasant taste, I changed my opinion completely.

The kitchen is clean now free from my work mess and i think the change of work and life spaces is very good for me. It also help me focus, just like my hippy sewing machine, everything is colourful and warm. Talk about warmth, the garage just feel much warmer when we are inside, maybe it’s all about fitting into the environment.

Neighbour’s cat knows all our secrets.

By this time, I can hear the cat’s ring on her neck far across the neighbourhood. I wonder what they think all the time. In fact, if they keep visiting each neighbourhood like they own the place, they might be the ones who know all our secrets. Secrets which sometimes don’t worth keeping from others. I mean how many times we purposely skipped some details just so we can sound mighty and great in front of others, and end up having the other people stop trusting you at all. People notice these things, it happened all the time, and yet, people do it all the time, sometimes they say it’s for the other’s good to avoid some unpleasant topics but then it’s actually for themselves i think.

I spent 2 days working on my mushroom girl. I’m not sure if i like the sewing version of the mushroom girl or the simple sketch I only did in 5 mins. I guess i’m looking for something else from the process of sewing it up. It’s often not the outcome but the process we value and it leads us to a different place than before. I wish more people will do thing for the sake of enjoying the process rather than judging on the outcome.
