ART WALK No. 2 (Melbourne) Monet’s garden, Monique Barnett at Tinning Street, David Pereira, Fed Square lighting event, Evangelion at No Vacancy Gallery
Last week was pretty nice, I only had half a day on Friday to explore so I had another Sunday for Monet and food and more art. This is part of my weekly posts about art in the city I visit, mostly in Melbourne, but also when I’m on the trip somewhere.
First of all, here are the events I’m planning to attend this week:
- Off the Kerb next exhibitions: Dominic Sowersby, Samantha Riegl and Adam Stone & Bernadette O’Sullivan
- Outside Assembly – New Works by Nior, at No Vacancy Project Space
- Loophole: Precious Things by Laurel Kohat at Loop Bar
- Seasons of Change Winter at Revolver Upstairs
Apology for the phone photos again, I was in a rush when leaving home so I forgot to take my camera with me again … I really have to get the habit of carrying the camera with me every Friday.
I have been wanting to visit Tinning Street for a very long time now, finally I made it there! It wasn’t really hard to find although I did see a suspicious guy covered his face with sweater walking past me. Which reminded me to find a gallery buddy with me next time! More photos on my Facebook page.

I had extra two hours to kill before the next opening so I had a little walk in Brunswick. Some interesting shops on Sydney Rd. Little People is probably the biggest collection of Disney collectable I’ve seen in Melbourne so far. They have so many giant sculptures in the store it’s awesome.

I was puzzled by the amount of wedding dress stores on Sydney Rd, also there are yarn bombing in varies places. I wonder if yarn bombing is now the mark for hipster town?

I met David Pereira from Men with beard group show in April, and he is having another group show with bunch of cartoonists. You can stalk his art works on his Facebook page and his beautiful sense of style on his instagram. In fact, he is the only person I know who I can feel comfortable with the amount of piercing and tattoo he has.

Monet happened on Sunday morning with a group of friends. Have to say I was a little disappointed. Somehow the show didn’t explain the hype to me. I find his personal life was much more interesting than the artworks themselves, and I like how the end of the exhibition was presented (not gonna spoil it for you), but I’m sure there were so much more in his life than just the painting. I’m not sure what exactly I’m looking for here but something seems too be missing from the show, so sorry, no photo here to see…
Friends who work at Madman have taken me to the EVANGELION show at No Vacancy Gallery, Evangelon fans can have a look at all these production storyboard next to the animation frame to study their studio techniques.

I almost forgot that Pimp my M.U.F is still on and selected Ukuleles are now exhibiting at Villain QV store. So it was a little surprise “discovering” my Uku in the shop 🙂

We saw this structure building last week at Fed Square, apparently it’s part of a program called The light in winter at Fed Square. This is called “Singing up the helix tree” where every evening, choirs will sing in front of this interactive light installation, and you can try your own after that.

There is also a campfire next to the Helix tree
