Helen Stewart

My first art lessons were at Mentone Mordialloc Art Group in Mentone until I joined 'Joy of Art' at Aspendale. In 1998 I attended the Botanical Art School of Melbourne, specializing in drawing with pencils, coloured pencils and watercolour. These are my favorite mediums. I have spent time on the island of Savu Savu (Fiji) painting a variety of tropical plants and flowers. Our teacher was Leonie Norton from Sydney. Leonie also took us out and about the island painting landscapes. I attended a course at Beechworth with Leonie Norton, again, this time concentrating on Banksias from various parts of Australia. I grew up in East Gippsland where Banksia trees were everywhere, hence my love of this species.
