Having spent many years handling and arranging flowers in my work as a florist and function designer the transition to two-dimensional composition and placement came quite naturally. Years of observation and consideration of the movement and placement of plants and flowers in physical space has driven my desire to replicate their beauty and rhythm in paint. Botanical painting is a meditative process. It requires patience, time and quiet contemplation. I enjoy the challenge of creating a complex composition that tells a botanical story of the inherent cycle of nature. The medium of watercolour in itself necessitates a slow pace, however it allows me to explore the myriad of colours, tones and textures within a subject.
