Joanna Kim

I was born in South Korea. I came to Melbourne 7 years ago and joined the botanical art classes at the Royal Botanic Gardens, Melbourne. I enjoy observing and researching my painting subjects and feeling what they represent. My works were accepted for the Botanical Exhibition in Melbourne 2008, 2012 and in 2013, 2014 for the Sydney Botanica. Also I received 'The Best Still Life/Floral' award Malvern Artist's Society Spring Exhibition 2011 and one of my paintings was selected as a 'Best in Show' at their Autumn Exhibition in 2012. Also a scratchboard work of mine had been chosen 'The Best in the Other Category' at their Autumn Exhibition in 2014. Above all, my pineapple painting has been selected as a 'Feature' painting for the Botanical Exhibition in Melbourne, 2014. Those are helping me to become involved with, and understand the botanical arts and various other painting areas. I hope my paintings are telling stories and even though they are relatively simple, that they expose the botanical world as well as more common, simple subjects that surround us.
