Susan Jarick

Despite having an early interest in art I followed a different career path and the demands of work, family and other interests left no time to pursue it. I became aware of modern botanical painting through the work of masters such as Rory McEwen in the early 1990s and finally my love of natural history, painting and plants came together in the study of botanical art. I enjoy the challenge of contemporary botanical painting to faithfully describe plants in precise, meticulous detail while retaining a lively impression of the plant’s nature. The gorgeous variety of colours, shapes and textures of plants through their lifecycle, the elegant construction, the intricate structures of seedpods, the fat self-sufficiency of bulbs, these are a constant source of inspiration. I have sold paintings both privately and through galleries in Tasmania and my paintings have been used for illustrated covers and greeting cards. I have exhibited with the Botanical Art Society of Australia, the Friends of the Royal Botanical Gardens and the government organization Arts@Work.
