Ruth Jackson

Ruth became interested in botanical art through her love of our natural environment and has always been attracted to the natural beauty of Australia's native wildflowers. Keen to conserve what is left of the last remaining-and rapidly dwindling- bushland in the Maroondah region, she has recognised the pressing need for a reliable identification resource for the assistance of concerned conservationists from both within and beyond the region. To this end she is currently committed to a long term illustration project with the aim of publishing, in book form, a comprehensive guide to the region's indigenous flora. To complicate matters Ruth is vision impaired, requiring a range of specialised vision aids and working with a very short depth of focus and narrow visual field. As well as being legally blind. She has recently been diagnosed with a rare, disabling disease. So unfortunately, she is loosing the use of her legs, as well as the use of the lower arms and hands, so possibly will not be able to paint for much longer. She will probably make this the last time that she will enter in 'The Art of Botanical Illustration'. Over the years a number of her paintings have been acquired for the State Botanical Collection, as well as other interested collectors.
