Rosemary Donnelly enjoys studying the infinite variety in nature and believes that the botanical artform is becoming increasingly relevant in a world where so many species are threatened with extinction due to Climate Change. Rosemary’s first major solo exhibition True to Life: works of a botanical nature was held at Salt Contemporary Art in Queenscliff in 2013. She is currently working towards her next exhibition. Her work is represented in the Permanent Collection of the Hunt Institute for Botanical Documentation, the Illustrated Garden Collection of Melbourne Royal Botanic Gardens, and numerous private collections. Rosemary’s painting Rosa rugosa ‘ Fru Dagmar Hastrup ’ is currently on exhibition in the 17th International Annual Horticultural Society New York/ American Society of Botanical Artists Show in Manhattan, NY. She also regularly exhibits in The Art of Botanical Illustration, Melbourne, Botanica in Sydney and Inspired by Nature, Geelong. Rosemary has recently completed a painting of Prunus persica ‘ Versicolor ‘, for the Florilegium of the Sydney Royal Botanic Gardens. Her preferred medium is watercolour, using primarily transparent paints, which she lays down in numerous washes to create a translucent effect, followed by painstaking dry brushwork to complete the surface texture and minute detail.
