Simon Deere

Having trained in Visual Communication Design (NZ) in the 1980’S, Simon worked as a Graphic Designer in both New Zealand and Australia for the next fifteen years. In 2000 he had the opportunity to work at the Darwin Botanic Gardens. Being surrounded by tropical plants and wildlife he was inspired by the many forms of the natural world, and while there, undertook studies in horticulture. Since returning to Melbourne in 2002 he has worked as a landscape gardener. Simon began his venture into botanical art at painting classes with Jenny Phillips of the Botanic Art School of Melbourne. Over the last four years he has also attended classes at the Royal Botanic Gardens under the guidance of both Diane Emery and Helen Burrows. Simon continues to study at the Botanic Gardens on a regular basis while also attending a variety of specialist workshops with visiting botanical artists.
