Fiona was born in Melbourne in 1972 and was a keen student of art and art history during her school years. She went on to complete a Bachelor of Arts at the University of Melbourne in 1992, majoring in art history. While her career path led her to form her own successful corporate writing business in 2002, her desire to one day return to painting never waned. In late 2003 she began taking classes in botanical illustration at the Royal Botanic Gardens in Melbourne with Dianne Emery, giving her the perfect opportunity to rediscover her love of painting and combine it with her passion for things that grow, creep and crawl.
