Textile Designer and Botanical artist, Jacqui Baxter loves colour, beautiful surface pattern and is intrigued by the natural world around us that offers so much inspiration. Having grown up and studied in South Africa, travel has led her to Melbourne, where she has lived and worked for many years designing in all aspects of the Textile Industry; included in this has been swimwear, lingerie, fashion, corporate wear, interior and bed linen. Jacqui also teaches at RMIT University Melbourne, Textile and Fashion Department, lecturing specifically on floral drawing and painting in different techniques and medium for design. She also had the opportunity to lecture at Jenny Phillip’s School of Botanical Art, which led to assisting artists in printing their work onto fabric. The discovery of Botanical Art began as an extension of her textile working career, as her focus has been in traditional media, her passion for detail and how plants are composed has come to the fore. She has studied Botanical Art extensively over the years through Jenny Phillip’s School of Art, as well as through the Royal Botanical Gardens and has also recently taken up lessons with Terry Napier to further develop her skills. Her work has been seen at the Royal Melbourne Botanical Gardens biennial exhibitions in 2010 and 2012. As well as the Eucalypt Exhibition in 2011 and Nature in Art Exhibition RBG Melbourne 2013. She has also just had an inspirational exhibition this year showing her botanical and textile work in a joint exhibition at Acme Et Al, Yarra Valley 2014.
